Shopping at the Cat-Emporium Factory Store

Cat Emporium, the factory store for heavy equipment manufacturer Peterson Tractor/Caterpillar, celebrated its second birthday in November 2005. If you or someone you know is into tractors, graders, bulldozers, and backhoes, then this is the place for you. The store features diecast toys, remote control toys, CAT-branded clothing, videos, golf bags (!) and just about anything CAT-branded that you can imagine. The store has been run by Valencia Davis since it opened. And not only does she run the store, she handles all the orders for the web site, manages the web site, and makes sure that merchandise gets distributed to other stores.

The store is open from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm and is located at 955 Marina Boulevard. For more information, check out the web site at http://www.cat-emporium.com or call 510-618-2945.

Ghirardelli Factory Store in San Leandro

Ghirardelli has been making chocolate in San Leandro since 1967, despite Ghirardelli Square's status as a San Francisco landmark. In 2004, Ghirardelli opened a stored at its factory location at 1111 139th Avenue and was awarded the Mayor’s Award of Excellence in Business in January 2005.

If you're looking for a gift for someone who enjoys chocolate, you can find everything from chocolate replicas of cable cars and the Golden Gate Bridge to hot chocolate mix, chocolate syrup, and gift sets at the Ghirardelli factory store. Prices are often 25% to 50% less than standard retail prices. You can often find boxes of chocolate squares priced at $25 for 13.5 pounds of chocolate - a very tempting deal for chocoholics.

Holiday hours are in effect until December 24:

  • M - F, 10am - 7pm

  • Sat and Sun, 10am - 6pm

Discuss the Proposed Parcel Tax for San Leandro School District

There will be a meeting at 7pm on Sunday, December 4, 2005, at Jefferson Elementary School to discuss a proposed parcel tax for the San Leandro Unified School District. Superintendent Christine Lim and school board members have noted that San Leandro ranks last in Alameda County in the amount of revenue per student. This often translates to overcrowded classes and resource scarcity.

The parcel tax could appear on the ballot as soon as June 2006, if approved by the school district.

Jefferson Elementary is located at 14300 Bancroft Avenue in San Leandro.
