With the deadline a few days away, just three people have filed an application for the appointment to the District 4 San Leandro City Council seat. The last time the City Council appointed a member of the City Council, in 2007, there were 12 applicants, but that was for a two-year appointment and this appointment will be for a maximum of three and a half months.
San Leandro Bytes was able to confirm that two of the applicants are Chris Crow and Charles Kane. Crow is also a candidate for the seat in the November election, while Kane said that he does not want to run for elected office. Kane has lived in San Leandro since 1950 and worked for the City of San Leandro for 35 years. Although the third applicant is not known, Benny Lee, who is also running for the seat in November, informed San Leandro Bytes that he will submit his application for the appointment before the deadline.
The City Council seat was vacated by Joyce Starosciak when she resigned on August 1, 2012. The City Charter mandates that the vacancy be filled by an appointment within 60 days. The deadline to submit an application is August 20, 2012, at 5pm.Posted by Mike Katz-Lacabe at August 18, 2012 1:13 AM | TrackBack
