San Leandro Police Officer Charged With False Imprisonment

Veteran San Leandro Police Officer Greg Cannedy was charged with two counts of felony false imprisonment, one count of misdemeanor sexual battery and three counts of battery on Friday, October 27, 2006. Cannedy was placed on paid administrative leave in mid-September, when the incidents were reported.

Cannedy allegedly detained and inappropriately touched two women while on the job, according to a police department spokesman.

Cannedy has been with the San Leandro Police Department for five years. On Monday, October 30, 2006, Cannedy turned himself in at the Hayward Hall of Justice and was released on $27,000 bail.

According to a statement from San Leandro police Sgt. Rick DeCosta, in one incident on September 12, 2006, Cannedy allegedly grabbed a woman's hand and placed it between his legs and then rubbed her hand over his clothes after kissing her neck. In another incident between May and December 2005, Cannedy was alleged to have pulled a motorist towards him to kiss her neck as she got back into her car.
