San Leandro Players Team Wins 12th Annual Trivia Bee

After a two-question sudden death round, the San Leandro Players team won the Trivia Bee on Friday, October 21, 2005, at the San Leandro Marina Community Center. Second place went to the Kaplan Family, winners of the 2003 Trivia Bee. The deciding question, in the Comics and Cartoons category, was "Which cartoon character's maiden name was Slaghoople?" The answer was Wilma Flintstone.

Third place went to State Roofing Systems after winning a sudden death playoff against two other teams.

As usual, former Jeopardy champion Leslie Frates read the first round of thirty questions. ANG newspaper columnist Ray Orrock read the questions for the final two rounds and the sudden death playoffs. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Robert Kurtz, official Trivia Bee judge, was on hand to determine which ans and Kathy Kurtz was the official time keeper.

In addition to the Trivia Bee, a raffle featured prizes supplied by local businesses including a digital camera and $100 gift card from Wal-Mart, $100 towards travel on Southwest Airlines, and dozens of other prizes from local businesses and individuals. Funds raised by the Trivia Bee help Project Literacy to provide literacy services to 200 adults and 1,500 kids each year.
